May 1st, 2008 update
The GSA Executive has retained Andrew Camman from Polishuk, Camman & Steele to represent graduate student interests at the arbitration hearing. Mr. Camman will be present on May 9th to argue that students need to have standing (a voice) at the arbitration. Currently only representatives from the university (the employer) and WLUSA will be allowed to speak.
The hearing begins on May 9th at 9:30am in R138 (first floor of 202 Regina). While individual students will not have the ability to speak directly to the arbitrator, it is crucial that we show our concern for our employment at WLU by attending the initial hearing. Your presence can help our case of standing be successful and will demonstrate to WLUSA that graduate students need to be respected as equals. Mr. Camman will meet with all graduate students interested at 9am at 202 Regina to discuss conduct and procedure. If you intend on coming to the hearing, PLEASE attend this meeting at 9am.
The GSA Executive will be holding an information session about the May 9th schedule of events on THURSDAY MAY 8th, 2008 at 2pm in the Grad Pub. At this session we will discuss how graduate students can best show their support for our case.
Should you have any questions or concerns, or would like to get more involved, please contact Ellen Menage at emenage@wlu.ca
